Kid Cashew in Charlotte’s Dilworth neighborhood is where Mediterranean cuisine gets a modern twist, catering to a myriad of diets from carnivores to vegans, and gluten-free. They swear off freezers, fryers, and heat lamps, ensuring every dish is a fresh masterpiece. Plus, they boast a full bar for those who like a side of hops with their hummus, located on the lively East Blvd. My culinary adventure began years ago with a quest for Charlotte’s ultimate mac & cheese, leading me to Kid Cashew’s takeout. Spoiler: It didn’t disappoint. Fast forward to now, I decided it was high time to grace Kid Cashew with my presence for the full dine-in saga. The menu is a treasure trove of shareable plates. I zeroed in on the “Meatball Au Poivre” ($9.95) - a beefy, herby delight swimming in cognac peppercorn gravy, and the “Cast Iron Mac & 5-Cheeses” ($8.95) - a dairy lover’s dream with a quintet of cheeses melding into creamy bliss. Without skipping a beat, I also nabbed the “Baked Spinach & Feta Dip” ($8.95), because why not dive into a cheesy spinach pool with pita paddles? Seated at the bar, I was in the good hands of Brittanie, the bartender extraordinaire. She’s not just a mixologist; she’s a menu wizard, a conversational maestro, and possibly my new best friend. Brittanie guided me through the menu with the expertise of a seasoned foodie, ensuring my taste buds were in for a treat. The meatballs were a revelation. Imagine five cute juicy meatballs taking a dive in a pool of creamy, buttery cognac peppercorn gravy, and you’re invited to the party. And bring the pita bread for a dip; it’s the etiquette. The Mac & Cheese? Let’s just say it performed a cheese pull so majestic, I half expected a standing ovation from the couple seated next to me. It’s the kind of dish that whispers, “You’ll never want to leave me.” Speaking of cheese pulls, the spinach and feta dip followed suit. It’s not just a dip; it’s a cheesy escapade with spinach. The warm, fluffy pita served alongside was the perfect companion for a dive into this cheesy wonderland. Kid Cashew’s seating options are as versatile as their menu, offering everything from bar seats under Brittanie’s watchful eye to an outdoor heated patio (though the chairs could use a lesson in comfort). The ambiance? Imagine dining to the tune of Marvin Gaye & Kim Weston’s “It Takes Two,” where the sound level is just right for plotting your next cheese pull. Parking is complimentary, a rare find in Charlotte, though it might test your parallel parking skills on a busy night. As I sat there, overindulging in what could easily feed a small family, I couldn’t help but plan my next visit. The Rotisserie chicken has my name on it, and yes, I noticed the paper straws. Eco-friendly and delicious? Kid Cashew, you’ve got yourself a repeat offender.

Found it nearby while on a business trip. They offer gluten free pasta and I had the chicken and pesto. It was delicious and even good the next day as leftovers.

The BEST gluten free pizza! They make all of their own pizza dough, including their gluten free crust. It is a traditional Detroit style pizza with a rectangle crust, crisp edge and nice chewy center (reminiscent of true "pan pizza" before I was gluten free). They are able to accommodate gluten free for their pizza, pasta and breadsticks which was a huge win! Dawn was amazing and attentive communicating my food allergies and providing service throughout dinner. I am currently working my way through their entire menu but have enjoyed the variety of options for both traditional red sauce pizza and also white pizza. The GM, Michael, came out after my appetizer and again after my pizza was delivered to check on my satisfaction with their GF crust, as well as ensure the all appropriate measures were taken to accommodate my allergies. Truly a gem in Plaza Midwood and thankful for an alternative to the mass manufactured gf pizza served at every other place in Charlotte.

#CeliacReviews: What a blessing when celiacs can eat like pigs, just like non-celiacs. I called ahead and the patient, friendly staff connected me to the sous chef, who explained the options with lowest risk of gluten cross-contamination (flat-top is used for gluten-containing items too). I had the mixed brisket 😋 with one of their GF sauces. 📌 Not a gluten-free facility, but there is a “gluten-friendly” menu (their transparency is honestly refreshing). ✅ Staff are knowledgeable and accommodating. ⭐️ Amazing service- they want you to have a great time. The cocktails are awesome too.

I don't usually have much to say about pizza, but this was far better than the usual pizza joint. Our server, Zoey, went sbive and beyond to make this an enjoyable meal. The holy shitake pie was excellent--even in gluten free version. And the magic mushroom soup was magical!

Ilios Noche on Providence - Always Great Ilios Noche on Providence is one of our favorites and never fails to please us, picky as we are. The menu is varied enough to please most, yet focused enough to maintain integrity. I am able to eat numerous items and stay gluten free while my ultra-foodie hubbie is regularly happy with his meals. Some favorites are the chicken parm, crazy lasagna, Greek ribs, lamb shank, parm risotto, and Ilios salad (roasted lemon dressing!!). The service is great on most counts; our our personal fave is Dave - he has us spoiled - and the kitchen will certainly accommodate reasonable requests for modifications whenever possible. Nice little bar, great cocktails, whether you like "culinary mixology" or just a great martini. Our only slight negatives at this point are that we feel the new wine list is not quite up to the previous one, although we still have enough good choices (try half-price bottle Tuesdays!) and I really miss the Atlantic flounder in brown butter. We haven't hosted a group there, but we've observed and they handle those well also.

I visited El Puro for the first time for Sunday brunch and had a great experience! I’m gluten-free so there weren’t many menu options for me that I saw, but I ended up ordering the pulled pork with rice, beans, and a side of plantains. Everything was delicious. The pork was very tender and had great flavor. I also enjoyed my cortadito before the meal. Our server was very warm and friendly too :) I look forward to going back.
